LINK: Sen. Obama’s rally at Manning, South Carolina, Nov. 2, 2007
This is the first of several speeches in this collect that captures the pace and tempo of his 2007 campaign rallies. This speech features an early campaign appearance of his “fired up, ready to go” slogan.
At this point in the campaign, many of South Carolina’s African-American voters were still not committing to Obama. The campaign’s internal polling showed that many blacks thought either (a) that it “wasn’t his time” and that he should “wait his turn”; or (b) that he would be killed. Obama deals very pointedly with each of these concerns in this speech.
