Pres. Obama’s commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame

LINK: President Obama’s commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, May 18, 2009

Context:

This was one of two controversial commencement speeches Obama gave in 2009 (the other at Arizona State University which can be seen HERE). As a Catholic university, Notre Dame administrators had received significant criticism for inviting Obama, a pro-choice president, to speak at their 2009 commencement. Obama effectively uses the controversy to explore how Americans of divergent views can still live together and communicate in the face of strong disagreement.

Note: Obama is introduced by Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John Jenkins who gives an equally compelling introduction to Obama which can be seen HERE.
