Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention

LINK: Sen. Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention, August 28, 2008, Denver, CO.

Context:
Going into the convention in Denver, Obama’s team was anxious to unite the party after the long, divisive nominating process. Speeches by Michelle Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton the previous several evenings created momentum and an air of good feeling among many Democrats. However, many Clinton supporters had joined a group called “Party Unity My Ass” (PUMAs) who were still quite bitter, and they had received substantial media attention during the convention. Obama made a point in this speech to reach out to these and other disaffected Democrats.
