LINK: Ted Kennedy’s endorsement & Obama’s response, January 28, 2008
Both the Clintons and Obama had sought Senator Ted Kennedy’s endorsement. Kennedy had been dissatisfied with the way the Clintons’ were managing their campaign — while members of his own family (most notably his niece, Caroline Kennedy-Schlossberg and her children) were finding themselves drawn to Obama’s candidacy. This endorsement came at a key moment in the nomination cycle, just days before the South Carolina Primary, a primary the Obama team won by a wide margin. It also elevated Obama and, in some ways, cast him as the heir to the Kennedy political legacy.
